Yuan Dynasty (1279–1368) official kiln porcelain jar. This Imperial Underglaze-Red ‘Chi-Dragon and Phoenix Medallion’ Porcelain Jar exemplifies the pioneering artistry of Yuan imperial kilns. The design features a chi-dragon and phoenix—emblems of balance, divine authority, and the union of heaven and earth—encircled by auspicious medallions rendered in rare copper-red underglaze.

The complex technique of achieving stable red tones from copper oxide represents one of the highest accomplishments in early porcelain craftsmanship. Each jar is handcrafted using authentic imperial kiln techniques, painted with natural mineral pigments, and fired up to 1280 °C in kiln to be finished products, keeping forever like a diamond.

This work embodies the Yuan dynasty’s technical innovation and cultural synthesis, integrating Chinese imperial symbolism with advanced Western-Asian color technology, resulting in a piece that radiates both power and refinement.

About the Item

Description

This 'Chi-Dragon and Phoenix Medallion' Jar, the original was unearthed on November 29, 1980 in Gao'an, Jiangxi Province, China. Modeling round and solemn, decorative chic, color elegant, can be called the yuan dynasty glazed red porcelain in the best, is rare at home and abroad the yuan dynasty glazed red products.

Its shoulders painted deformed lotus petals and double line rhombus pattern for a week, abdomen painted four begonias shaped panel, which were painted "phoenix play peony" and "crane through the chrysanthemum" figure, cranes and phoenix, light posture, wings through the flying in the flowers, colorful and vibrant.
