Ming Dynasty Jiajing Emperor (1522–1566) official kiln porcelain jar.
This Red-ground Yellow ‘Dragon’ Jar and Cover embodies the imperial grandeur and spiritual symbolism of the Jiajing era. The five-clawed imperial dragons, rendered in bright yellow against a deep red ground, represent sovereignty, vitality, and divine power, rising amid cloud and flame motifs that evoke the Emperor’s celestial mandate.

Each jar is handcrafted using authentic imperial underglaze and overglaze techniques, painted with natural mineral pigments, and fired up to 1280 °C in kiln to be finished products, keeping forever like a diamond. During Jiajing’s reign, the Ming imperial kilns perfected the art of contrasting color glazes, combining the brilliance of red and yellow — symbols of prosperity and imperial virtue — with bold, dynamic brushwork.

This masterpiece captures the majesty, balance, and sacred symbolism that defined the imperial aesthetics of mid-Ming porcelain.
