About the Item

Description

The vase is finely decorated with interlocking flowers and lotuses, medallion of flowers and bats, all between pendent ruyi heads at the mouth rim and upright lotus lappets at the foot. And enameled with delicate shades of yellow, pink, blue and red. The four framed panels on the belly are painted with flowers of the four seasons, with heavenly bamboo and daffodils representing spring, hollyhock symbolizing summer, daylilies and poppies signifying autumn, and roses in full bloom all year round and evergreen bamboo symbolizing winter.

This vase integrates techniques innovated over many dynasties. Since various glazes need different firing temperatures, the craftsmen had to re-fire this object many times. Despite the complex process, the vase has harmonious patterns and elegant colors. It displays sophisticated porcelain production techniques.
