Description

The straight neck, bulbous body and foot ring give the vase the name of "globular vase. The entire body is vividly painted in bright blue tones with two five-clawed dragons writhing amidst a dense ground of lotus scroll, all below bands of waves and pendent ruyi heads at the mouth rim, and above upright lotus lappets at the foot. The dragon, a divine mythological beast that Chinese people worshiped and revered, with interlocking flowers, forms the distinctive decoration.

About “TianQiuPing”

Tianqiuping (‘Globular’ vase) was created during the Ming dynasty. It is characterized by a small mouth, straight neck, globular body, and slightly concave base. During the Qing dynasty particularly in through the Qianlong period these became court favorites and were made using a wide variety of decorations. Among the wide range of antique Chinese vases this particular form is among the most enduring.
