About the Item

Description

Imitation of famille-rose vase with nine peaches from the Qianlong period, the original in Capital Museum, China. The vase has a slightly flared mouth, a straight neck, a swelling body and a foot ring, It is made by applying a finely textured snow-white glaze to the entire vase and then by painting the decoration in pink, green, white and brown colours with the "boneless method," a method that paints pictures without outlining the subject first. The peach tree and rose are in alternating light and dark colours to produce well-defined texture and a three-dimensional effect. There are eight ripe peaches on the tree with a sturdy trunk and luxuriant green leaves. The rose next to the tree looks graceful. The beautifully shaped vase with well-spaced decoration is refreshing to the eye. The wholesome peaches and delicate flowers relieved by the translucent white glaze look gorgeous and free from vulgarity. The picture means "offering peaches to celebrate a birthday." This vase in famille rose of the Qianlong period is an excellent object made at Jingdezhen. It represents the highly developed porcelain-making skills at the time.
